SPRAY TANNING LEVELS
Understanding the various levels of spray tanning product and how and when to use light, medium, dark or even something as potent as competition level spray tanning solution is important. We could go into a long scientific dissertation but for now let's stick to the basics of sunless tanning.

When using sunless tanning, it's important to remember that we are basically dealing with three general skin types; light, medium and dark. In theory, a light skin type would require a light solution (containing less of the active tanning ingredient), a medium complected person would require a medium solution (containing more of the active tanning ingredient) and a more olive, or darker complected person (someone with more melanin or color) could safely be sprayed with a dark solution which, you guessed it, contains still more of the active tanning ingredients. Now let's discuss some exceptions to these basic rules so you quickly grasp a better understanding of which spray tan rules can be broken and which can not. First and most importantly, understand that you should NEVER spray a light skinned person with dark tanning solution, this would create an orange look on light skin.

ASK THE PROS...

Can you spray a light skin person with medium spray tanning solution?

The answer is simply, yes but read on. While it would be ideal to have gallons of all levels on hand, many spray tanners are start-up businesses and frankly, buying a lot of equipment and solution might be a real challenge, also some seasoned pros who really have the whole spray tanning thing down to an art, just find that they have enough control over their spray tanning equipment and how much of the solution is delivered to the skin, that they can use medium solution on 80-90% percent of their clients and dark solution on darker skin types and if the client really wants the darkest spray tan possible, they use our intensifier drops by adding them to the dark solution. If you regularly tan a lot of darker skin people you may request a higher level from Tango Sun.

Can you spray a medium or darker skin person with light spray tanning solution?

Well this question and answer are merely academic. As you may have guessed, the answer is, "of course you can" but why would you? If you have a client with a medium complexion who wants only a hint of color, simply spray them lightly with medium. Remember you control how much DHA gets to the surface of the skin in large part by the speed at which you pass the spray gun over the skin and also the distance from the skin. After all when you move past all of the marketing materiel you find on the web that is meant to confuse buyers and convince them that the must have a full arsenal of varying levels of spray tanning product, you realize that the only difference in how dark or light a person gets, is the ammout of active ingredient that gets on the skin. Remember these are not really varying shades or colors, it is kind of misleading for companies to have you believe that, they are simply differnent bottles of the same product in most cases but with varying levels of active ingredients. Just like a coffee with a little sugar is the same coffee as one with a lot of sugar, it's not a different type or color or flavor coffee, it's just sweeter.
